Uttoxeter Town: Amoakohene 8’, Unknown 52’
Well, Vics scored their first goals for 5 matches and the first under the management of Duckworth and Goddard but it wasn’t enough to take all 3 points in an evenly fought match which could have gone either way.
It was Uttoxeter who struck first as early as the 8th minute as a corner was sent over to the far post where the unmarked Kofi Amoakohene had the easiest of chances to head past Parkes. However Vics pulled level quickly, just 4 minutes later as a corner of their own was headed in by Kieron Hamm for his first goal in Vics’ colours. Parkes then had to dive to his left to palm away a floated effort that was heading for the top corner. Vics should have gone ahead in the 20th minute as Ben Crane latched onto a long ball and sent a lob over the onrushing keeper which struck the underside of the bar, bounced down for Hamm to tap in but he somehow sent it wide. The rest of the half proved a quieter affair with neither side creating much in the way of chances with Crane having a wild shot over the bar after a short corner the nearest anyone came.
HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 1 Uttoxeter Town 1
The second half opened up as the first had with 2 quick fire goals. Firstly Vics took the lead in the 51st minute when a long throw from Alex Bennett grazed the bar, and fell for Sam Gill to fire home from close range. However, Uttoxeter struck back immediately as a low cross from the right fell for a Town player to tap in to level the scores up again. Again after a hectic start to the half, the match settled down with both sides pressing without looking too dangerous though both had a key chance to take the lead. Firstly in the 77th minute, a fantastic effort from 25 yards out from Niall Rushton looked to be arrowing into the bottom right corner before Parkes flung himself to his left to just tip it around for a corner. A great save. Three minutes later its was Vics’ chance to grab a winner as Tom Gamble did well down the right, and sent a great low cross in, which was dummied by Smith but Hamm failed to connect properly as the ball fell to him when only 5 yards out.
FULL-TIME : Northwich Vics 2 Uttoxeter Town 2
A point is a point, and we scored 2 goals, but it probably should have been better. A few positives with more chances created, but 2 sloppy goals given away was disappointing considering the recent improved defensive performances.
