George had a long career playing for a host of northern non league clubs and appeared for the Vics in the 2013/14 season ,always putting in 100% effort before his time with us was cut short by a serious achilles injury. He was diagnosed with MND two years ago, and showed the same determination and fight battling the disease as he had shown on the pitch during his playing his career. He helped spread the word about MND and to raise money to help the fight against this disease , always maintaining a sense of humour and steely determination.

Vics' Vice Chairman Ian Egerton said “Absolutely gutted to hear this sad news. RIP George, your courageous battle against MND will live long in our hearts and inspire everyone with your bravery and determination. Sending all our love to all of George’s family and friends”

Manager Steve Wilkes, had known him for a number of years , and had signed him as a player when he was manager at Padiham. Steve said “Absolutely devastated to hear the news regarding big G. You were a man mountain on the pitch and even bigger off it. You fought so bravely and gallantly my friend. Heaven has gained a true gentleman . I am honoured and privileged to say we shared a dressing room. RIP George “
